West Midlands Police said it had charged the youngster following an incident at about 4.20pm on Monday in Weoley Park Road, in Selly Oak.

He has been charged with two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and another charge of attempted wounding.

The youngster, who cannot be named because of his age, was due to appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Three other teenagers, two aged 14 and another aged 13, arrested in connection with the incident have been conditionally bailed pending further investigation.

A 14-year-old boy suffered a knife wound to the stomach in the attack, while a 15-year-old sustained an injury to the arm.

Both are still in hospital receiving treatment and are described as being in a stable condition.

A third boy, 14, has been discharged and is recovering at home.

Responding to the initial incident, ambulance crews found all three victims were already receiving treatment in the University of Birmingham school medical centre, nearby.
