The driver is alleged to have fled the scene in Old Fallow Road, Cannock, after crashing into the semi-detached house in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Sharon Ansell and her 17-year-old son Jamie Evans were sleeping upstairs when the car smashed through the front bay window, taking out a 50-inch TV and table.

The front window has now been boarded up
Police sealed off the area around the house

Photos taken in the aftermath of the crash showed the BMW left straddling the pavement next to a pile of debris under where the window used to be.

Mrs Ansell, 33, said she walked downstairs to see the empty window frame and the back end of the car.

"It was the loudest thing I've ever heard," she said.

"I crept downstairs and the front room was open onto the road, then I could see the back end of the car.

"I'm still shaking now. Normally my son sits in the front room to watch TV, it's lucky it was in the night."

Fire crews made sure the building was structurally safe after the crash happened at around 3.40am and the window has since been boarded up.

A 20-year-old man, believed to be the driver of the car, was arrested around an hour after the crash.

Police said it was remarkable that there were no injuries.
