Man charged with assault and kidnap after M6 police chase

A man has been charged with kidnap, threats to kill and assault after being chased down by police on the M6.

The arrest and charges followed what police described as a 'serious assault' in Stafford yesterday.

Gary Freeman, aged 55, of Southwell Estate, Eccleshall, was stopped by police on the southbound motorway between Junction 7 for Great Barr and Junction 6 Spaghetti Junction.

He has since been charged with kidnap, threats to kill, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and assault by beating.

He was due to appear before Magistrates at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre in Newcastle-under-Lyme this morning.
