A loaded handgun was found by a binman in Wolverhampton.

The revolver was found by a binman in Wolverhampton

Police were called at 10.40am yesterday after the worker discovered the weapon stuffed into a bag on top of the bin in Columbia Crescent in Bushbury.

Specialist firearms officers confirmed that it was a live Colt. 44 revolver with ammunition inside.

Officers are now conducting enquiries in the area and tests will be carried out on the weapon.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We count on members of the public to give us information on who is involved in gun crime.

"You can ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. It’ll be completely anonymous and no one will ever know you’ve called."
