The crooks used the cover of being officers to gain the trust of residents at Hawthorne Road, in New Invention, at around 7.30pm on Thursday who let them in before stealing cash from them.

No one was hurt but it comes after a similar raid around two and a half miles away at around 5.55pm on Tuesday.

Four men pushed their way into a home in Devon Road, Willenhall, pretending to be police.

They held down a terrified 70-year-old woman while they searched the house and then fled with cash.

West Midlands Police believe the robberies could be linked and have launched an appeal for information.

The robbers are described as being in their 30s, and wore dark clothing with hoods up and were possibly wearing ski masks or had scarves wrapped around their faces.

Detective Constable Nicola Williams, from Force CID, said: "Fortunately no-one has been seriously injured in what would have been a terrifying ordeal. These people have opened the door to what they believed to be trusted members of the community and have now been left frightened in their own home.

“We are urging anyone who may have any information or who has witnessed anything to come forward.

“We are also asking for people to share this message with older family members and neighbours who may not be on social media and advise them to keep their doors locked to people they may not know."
