A man was arrested after officers seized a meat cleaver and mask from him at around 8.50pm on the scariest night of the year.

Police were called by a worried member of the public to Boldmere Road, in Sutton Coldfield, to reports of a man walking around with a knife.

The offender had a silver hockey-style mask, as championed by the Jason Voorhees character in cult classic horror film Friday the 13th.

He allegedly had a real meat cleaver on him at the time of being stopped.

West Midlands Police issued a stark warning to those taking part in the annual celebration that Halloween was 'no excuse'.

WMP Force Support Unit tweeted: "Received a call from a member of the public of a male on Boldmere Road walking around with a knife in his pocket.

"As we were around the corner we called trick or treat. Male stopped/searched and meat cleaver found. Halloween is no excuse."
