The brief opening hearing at Black Country Coroner's Court on Thursday heard that Dwaine Haughton was shot in Valley Road, in Wolverhampton, on July 20.

The 24-year-old died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, the next morning.

DS Nicholas Barnes told the inquest there had been 'some progress' in the on-going investigation and four people had been arrested in total.

He said: "Two people arrested on suspicion of murder are currently on conditional police bail, to return at a date later this month.

"We have identified a vehicle we think was used, it had been stolen 24 hours previously and later found burned out. One person was arrested for the burglary and charged, while another person has been arrested for the burning of the vehicle and is on police bail.

"A lot of work is still to be done with the investigation. August 28 is the initial return date for those released on bail for murder. It is too early to say the outcome as a lot can happen over the next few weeks."

Assistant coroner Laura Nash adjourned the hearing for a pre-inquest review on September 6.
