Jason Kinsey has been locked up

Jason Kinsey had been drinking all day when he launched the attack on May 28, a judge heard.

The 34-year-old ran at the woman – with whom he had been in a ‘short-lived, volatile’ relationship – while her back was turned, sending her crashing to the floor by kicking her legs from under her, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

She also suffered facial injuries.

The following day he struck again, this time while the victim was at his father’s home in Himley Road, Dudley, said Mr Howard Searle, prosecuting.

Kinsey flicked a burning cigarette at the woman before grabbing a knife from the kitchen and moving threateningly towards her but repeatedly plunged the blade into the wall beside her, Mr Searle added.

Then his father was taken unwell and the defendant ended the frightening spree of violence by spitting at his girlfriend, who had also been drinking before the earlier incident, the court heard.

Kinsey, from Duke Street, Gornal, had 27 previous convictions involving 51 separate offences which included a drunken attack on a former partner, during which he repeatedly elbowed her in the head before pulling a door off its hinges and damaging a radiator.

He had also been convicted of a stabbing.

Mrs Kam Shergill, defending, said: “This had been a short-lived, volatile relationship during which there was a lot of arguing and drinking.

"Both were in drink and he admits that he could have handled the situation better. He accepts that the relationship is over but want to right his problems with his father.”

Kinsey pleaded guilty to assault and criminal damage and was jailed for a total of one year ten months.

Kinsey was also made the subject of a restraining order banning any contact with either his latest woman victim or his father.
