Biker seriously injured in Wolverhampton crash

A motorcyclist is seriously injured in hospital after a crash in Wolverhampton.

At least six police cars, two ambulances and an air ambulance were sent to the scene near Wolverhampton Amateur Boxing Club on Saturday evening.

Colliery Road was sealed off at the junction with Willenhall Road after the crash happened outside Easfield Nursery School at around 5.50pm.

The male biker, who is understood to be aged 28, was helped by bystanders before he was rushed to hospital in Birmingham after he hit a post next to the entrance to the school.

He suffered multiple fractures, a head injury and is in a serious condition in hospital, West Midlands Police said.

Willenhall Road, from which Colliery Road branches off next to Tesco Express, was also closed in both directions in the immediate aftermath of the crash.

Police are now appealing for anyone who saw the crash to come forward.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Police were alerted by ambulance colleagues to a collision in Colliery Road, Wolverhampton, at around 5.50pm on Saturday night in which a motorbike hit a lamppost.

"The biker - understood to be aged 28 - suffered multiple fractures and a head injury and is in a serious condition in hospital.

"Officers from West Midlands Police’s Collision Investigation Unit are looking into the circumstances of the crash and anyone who saw what happened, or saw the bike travelling along Colliery Road before the collision, is asked to call the force on 101 quoting log number 2192 from 5 May."
