West Midlands Police Assistant Chief Constable Marcus Beale was found guilty of gross misconduct with a recommendation for dismissal last month, after top secret documents were stolen from his car.

Speaking at the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner's strategic board meeting, Chief Constable Dave Thompson said a disciplinary panel was due to sit on March 28.

He added that it had now been put on hold as a result of a judicial review.

WMP spokesman Craig Hughes said: "ACC Marcus Beale appeared before a special case hearing on February 13 when the panel decided his actions amounted to gross misconduct and recommended dismissal.

"A judicial review was brought against the force and the panel; this is being progressed as swiftly as possible."

The 54-year-old, who is due to retire next month, stands to lose a tax-free £215,000 pension lump sum if he is sacked.

He was the region's most senior counter terrorism officer when he left highly classified papers in the boot of his car for five days last May.
