Violence flared after James Daly was ejected from The Goose in Lichfield Street, Wolverhampton, following an argument over a demand to see his ID, a judge heard.

The 29-year-old turned on one of the security staff as soon as they released their grip after he had been removed from the premises on April 25, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

Daly repeatedly punched Mark Stewart, fracturing and eye socket and causing other facial damage, said Mr Edward Soulsby, prosecuting.

Then 39-year-old Anthony Dean, who had nothing to do with the incident, launched an attack on another of the doormen, raining blows on Ferrell Gray as the brawl spread into the road, it was said.

Both of the defendants had been drinking and each had cocaine, disclosed Mr Soulsby.

Mr Simon Hanns, defending, commented: “It was a very unpleasant incident but was completely out of character.

"They are determined never to appear in the dock again.”

Daly, of Hall Lane, Maghull, Liverpool, was given a 12-month sentence, suspended for two years, with £690 costs and compensation and 150 hours unpaid work.

Dean, of Bower Avenue, Rochdale, received four months, suspended for two years with £540 costs and compensation.
