Around £50,000 worth of illicit tobacco and cigarettes were seized in Stourbridge following a joint operation with trading standards.

Police and trading standards officers with the haul of illegal tobacco and alcohol worth £50,000 seized during raids

Police say that more than £20,000 alone was taken from one shop in the town.

Stourbridge Police tweeted: "Joint Operation with Trading Standards, £50,000 worth of illicit tabacco and cigarettes seized, over £20,000 worth of it from one shop in Stourbridge @FSU_WMP @StourbridgeWMP @myDudleyTSO @BWYK9"

The raids were carried out in a joint intelligence-led operation between Dudley trading standards and West Midlands Police.

It comes in the latest in raids across the Black Country, which earlier this month saw £70,000 worth of illegal tobacco seized from four shops in Sandwell.

The businesses were targeted as part of the wider Safer 6 campaign.

And last month it was reported that the campaign saw more than £15,000 worth of illegal tobacco seized alongside bottles of counterfeit vodka.

The shops were reported as being investigated by trading standards - those found guilty facing criminal prosecution which could result in an unlimited fine and 10 years imprisonment.
