Man charged and three bailed after police officers mown down in Wolverhampton hit-and-run

A driver accused of being behind the wheel of a car that left two police officers injured following a hit-and-run has been charged with wounding.

It is alleged that Anthony Potter was behind the wheel of a Peugeot 407 that struck officers attending reports of a burglary in Westacre Crescent, in the Finchfield area of Wolverhampton, in the early hours of last Saturday.

The 50-year-old, of Spur Tree Avenue, Wolverhampton, has been charged with wounding with intent to resist arrest, another count of attempted wounding, driving while disqualified, dangerous driving and uninsured driving.

He is set to appear at Walsall Magistrates Court this morning where the charges will formally be put to him.

A 44-year-old man and two women, aged 42 and 48, who were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The two police officers continue to recover from their injuries.
