A man attacked the G4S worker outside of Morrisons at Milestone Way in Burntwood, around 10am on Monday, Staffordshire Police said.

The guard was not injured in the incident. The man fled the scene in a white Ford CMAX which contained at least one other person.

The getaway vehicle was found abandoned in nearby Juniper Close.

It is thought the suspects ditched it and made off on foot towards Hawthorne Crescent where they got into a silver or grey vehicle driven by another person.

The cash box was recovered on a roundabout close to the supermarket but it had been emptied of its contents.

Police said two of the men involved in the robbery were white, in their late 30s or early 40s, both wearing dark clothing while one was wearing a high-visibility vest.

Anyone with information should call the force on 101.
