Armed police called as Oldbury man threatens to stab himself

Armed police were called when a man threatened to stab himself with a knife.

The incident happened at a home in Crosswells Road, Oldbury, on Sunday at around 5pm.

Officers found a 32-year-old man who was threatening to harm himself with the blade.

The road was closed while police negotiated with the man before the incident ended safely.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "A number of specialist police resources - including negotiators and firearms officers - were at the scene in an attempt to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.

"The man presented himself to officers and was taken to hospital.

"Our officers are well versed at managing situations like this.

"Public safety is our primary concern therefore Crosswells Road was closed for a short time as a precaution."
