Firefighters from Wolverhampton were called to the blazes at Sedgley Beacon on Saturday at 5pm, before returning again yesterday at 2.30pm.

The fires were both covering an area 1,000 sq m and were on the embankment toward to the reservoir at the site.

Water hose reels were used to put out the flames on both occasions.

Dudley Council manage the site.

Friends of Sedgley Beacon preserve both the area and the Beacon Tower, built in 1846 for astronomy.

Chairman Tony Cowell said: "We don't get too much trouble with grass fires, but it does happen, the same as it does anywhere when you have dry and long grass."
