Two arrests after hate crime at Walsall mosque

Two man have been arrested for an alleged hate crime at a mosque.

The incident happened on Tuesday night at Jamia Masjid Ghausia in Walsall when a man was racially assaulted.

Two men, aged 18 and 24, were later arrested and are still in police custody while investigations continue.

A statement from West Midlands Police said: "West Midlands Police stands together with all communities in the UK and we will take action against any criminal behaviour which seeks to undermine society, especially where crimes are motivated by hate.

"We would encourage anyone who is suffering from hate crime, to report the matter to us - we will take it seriously and deal with it sensitively."

The mosque on Birchills Street, Birchills, is under Pakistani management and has a capacity for nearly 2,000 people. It is also known as the Pakistani Muslim Welfare Society.

No-one at the venue was available for comment.
