Police have received numerous calls about the suspect targeting people in and around Sandon Road, north of the town centre.

He has allegedly offered items as 'collateral' to make his supposed plight more believable.

PCSO Jenny Ludlow-Smith said: "We have received reports from the Sandon Road vicinity of a male claiming his son was having an asthma attack and he needed help or taxi monies to hospital.

"No descriptions are available at this time but he has used a similar story with local residents who have thought the story has not added up when the male failed to return when one resident offered to give him a lift.

"He has also offered items such as a credit card or house keys as collateral to return and pay the money back.

"We believe the male may have used the stories simply to obtain money."
