Jake Whelan, aged 24, and Robert Lainsbury, 23, were sentenced after being found guilty of killing Lynford Brewster on a housing estate near Cardiff.

Whelan was given 32 years and Lainsbury 30 years.

Lainsbury sarcastically wished the judge a 'Merry Christmas' when being jailed and he then spat at a woman officer.

A third man, 29-year-old Dwayne Edgar from south Wales, was jailed for 28 years after he was also found guilty of murder.

Mr Brewster was stabbed in a horrifying attack on the outskirts of the Welsh capital, which detectives said was pre-meditated, as shocked residents looked on.

The sentences at Cardiff Crown Court on Wednesday came on what would have been the victim's 30th birthday.

Detective Inspector Mark O'Shea, from South Wales Police, said: "The murder of Lynford Brewster was a brutal and cowardly attack. A pre-meditated murder perpetrated in broad daylight by three men using knives.

"The attack was witnessed by a large number of people, many of whom had the courage to try to render first aid to Lynford."

Mr Brewster's family said in a statement: "Lynford was a loving son, partner, brother and would have been a doting father to his unborn daughter.

"He is missed everyday by each and every one of us.

"We would like to thank everyone for their support."
