Camran Green was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after he was stabbed in the stomach on Sunday night.

He was pronounced dead yesterday morning at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, prompting detectives to launch a murder investigation.

They are hunting for a male suspect following the attack, which happened at 8.20pm on Sunday at an address in Cheltenham.

Mother Emma Green, 35, paid tribute to her son, who would "do anything for anybody".

And she said she has no idea why her son was in Cheltenham - 50 miles from his home in Wednesbury.

Camran Green, 17, (R) with brother Tyler Green (L).

Ms Green, of Tamworth, said: "Everybody loved him. He could get along with everybody and he had lots of friends.

"Camran was a lovely guy. He got along with anybody and was loved by loads.

"He would do anything for anybody so for something like this to happen.

"I don't understand why people have to use weapons when they know people have to use weapons when they know full well what consequences it has.

"He has got three brothers and two sisters and it is all mixed emotions at the moment.

"My four-year-old doesn't know, my six-year-old is trying to get his head around it.

"We are all just in shock. I just don't know what I'm feeling.

It is not clear why Camran was in the area, which is around 50 miles away from his home

"I'm feeling angry, upset and confused. I don't know what to think at the moment.

"I want him to be remembered as a loving, caring, generous guy who would do anything for anyone.

"Whoever did it will have to be caught and justice to be served."

She added: "To be honest, I don't even know why he was in Gloucestershire."

Others paid tribute to their cousin and friend, who turned 17 last month, on social media.

Writing on Facebook, Keris Paige Green said: "Can't believe what I'm hearing and how sick this world actually is.

"My cousin died from stab wounds this morning, can't believe it.

"R.I.P. Camran make sure you look after my niece."

Stacey Flood wrote: "Totally shock, just seems to be bad news all the time. The good ones are always taken early xx"

Another Facebook user, Vicki Coffey, said: "How completely awful. I hope justice is served and the perpetrator is caught soon.

"Thoughts are with this poor boy's family."

Residents living near the scene of the attack, on Shakespeare Road in Cheltenham, expressed shock at the attack.

Kevin Devaney, the Operational and Development Manager of Hesters Way Neighbourhood project, said it happened just across the road from the centre.

He added: "We are all deeply shocked and saddened by what's happened, and we are waiting for more details about the incident."

Gloucestershire Police Detective Inspector Ruth Mather said: "We understand the concern this prompts in the local community but at the moment it's too early to provide any answers about the circumstances as we are still following up a number of inquiries.

"What I can say is that as well as our detectives working near the scene we have local PCs and PCSOs patrolling and knocking on doors in the area to provide reassurance and gather further information."

She added: "In the meantime we're doing everything we can to trace the person responsible and have specialist officers offering support to the victim's family."
