A German stalker who became obsessed with a young girl after she appeared on a British TV talent show has been jailed for 16 months.

Michael Morgado-Guillen bombarded the youngster with up to 400 messages a day through social media sites, a judge heard.

The 37-year-old travelled to the UK three times in an effort to meet her and once even visited the home of the terrified teenager after tracking down the address through Google last October, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

He left a walkie talkie at the West Midland property in the forlorn hope that she would contact him after he had been ordered out, revealed Mr Christopher O'Gorman, prosecuting.

A startled relative found Morgado-Guillen in the porch – immediately recognised the intruder from the German's social media profile picture – and ordered him to leave.

The alarming development prompted her family to contact police who launched an investigation that discovered 6,709 out of 8,000 internet searches made by him contained the name of the girl.

The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told officers: "His visit really freaked me out."

It left her too scared to go out alone.

Her family became concerned by the behaviour of the man's 'inappropriate' messages to the Twitter and Facebook accounts of the girl and asked him to stop in September 2014.

There was a short lull before he resumed contact. Mr O'Gorman continued: "It was quite clear from the nature of the messages that he had become infatuated with the girl.

"He declared his love for her and described how he wanted to kiss and hug her. It was not just an inappropriate obsession, it was an inappropriate sexual obsession.

"He was sending so many messages the girl and her family simply could not ignore them. They were overwhelmed by them."

Morgado-Guillen, who is understood to come from Seeburg in Germany, sent her numerous unwanted presents including handbags and scarves in her favourite colour before he flew back to the UK and visited her home.

After being sent packing he continued to send messages until January when he was blocked from all her social media platforms.

He was arrested on May 21 when he flew back into the country intending to camp near her home. His rucksack contained a pepper spray.

Miss Beth Crocker, defending, said: "He fell in love with her and recognises his behaviour was inappropriate."

Morgado-Guillen, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to stalking. Judge Nicholas Webb said: "It is in the public interest that you be deported when released."

The defendant is now indefinitely banned from contacting the victim in any way and prevented from going within five miles of her home.
