[gallery] A main road into Wolverhampton was closed today by police investigating violence that led up to the murder of Tom Kirwan.

Officers cordoned off Wednesfield Road outside the Canal Club, and traffic was being diverted through the Springfield area of the city.

It is believed to be a routine part of the investigation and not linked to the discovery of any new evidence.

A number of people are due to stand trial for affray next month in connection with violence leading up to his death.

Wolves fan Mr Kirwan, 23, was stabbed in July 2012 after trouble in the club, formerly known as Uberra nightclub, spilled outside.
