thyssenkrupp Materials (UK) Ltd, an arm of thyssenkrupp UK based in Cradley Heath, has been awarded an Execution Class 2 under the BS EN 1090-3 European Union standard.

The new accreditation will allow the firm to work on buildings up to five storeys in height, including residential properties and commercial premises. It will also allow them to begin working on installations at industrial sites, such as power stations.

The firm, which specialises in supplying raw materials such as aluminium and stainless steel, as well as component parts, says the new accreditation will allow it to significantly increase its annual output.

Dean Melling, director at thyssenkrupp Materials, explained: “This is an important step forward for our business. Since July 2015, work on projects of this nature has been governed by the BS EN 1090-3 and an Execution Class 2 has been a standard requirement.

“Our staff have put 10 months of hard work into attaining this qualification, and we will now be able to go out and chase additional clients for the welding side of our business. It gives us scope to provide welding services and prefabricated components on larger and more complicated projects.

“We have already won a significant contract at a power station in Staffordshire, and we look forward to having an opportunity to pitch on a diverse range of projects going forward.

thyssenkrupp UK Ltd made headlines in the region recently after opening a new national HQ in Solihull and throwing its support behind the Midlands Engine strategy. It employs more than 2000 people across the UK, including over 400 in the West Midlands.
