Stewart Coles, an associate director in the commercial property department at the law firm, will host the free Talk Legal webinar at 10am on Wednesday, November 18.

Mr Coles will introduce the webinar live on Zoom, then play a short vidcast explaining the potential opportunities and how they can be progressed, before returning to the screen to answer any questions.

The session is expected to last no longer than 30 minutes, including any questions, and attendees will leave knowing what to do next if they want to explore sourcing funds for their business in this way.

Mr Coles said: “This will be a very practical webinar especially for businesses with cashflow problems in these challenging days who might need to find different ways to access funds.

“In short, I’ll be discussing how companies with SIPP or SSAS pensions can consider using those funds to purchase commercial property, and how this can include the commercial property that the business itself might currently own.

“We will talk about how a business could sell its own commercial property to the pension scheme to raise funds for that business’s cashflow and future operations.

“Not only can this release crucial funds for the business, but the pension fund will also receive tax-free benefits from any rise in value in the commercial property and from any rent paid by the business, which would become its tenant.

“It all sounds simple, but the webinar will also explain the various important processes that need to take place for this to all happen legally and tax-efficiently.”

The webinar is the eighth in Thursfields’ Talk Legal series which was launched during the first Covid-19 lockdown to ensure the company continued its regular free workshops for businesses and the community.

Michelle O’Hara, managing director at Thursfields, which has offices in Halesowen and Kidderminster, said: “We’ve been pleased at the popularity of the growing number of webinars we’ve launched in 2020, with some attended by scores of people.

“Our Talk Legal vidcast series enables both existing and new contacts to access our various experts’ wide knowledge and in-depth experience on a variety of legal topics.”
