Law firm hosting webinars for festival

A law firm is planning a series of nine webinars to aid businesses on a variety of topics as part of the Black Country Business Festival which starts on Monday. October 5.

Specialists from Higgs & Sons will deliver informative webinars covering topics including tackling diversity on Trustee boards, commercial contracts and reducing the cost of workplace conflict.

It is part of the annual festival, which helps and inspires businesses within the region, as well as demonstrating the Black Country’s strengths, innovation, commerce, culture and huge investment potential to the rest of the world.

This year’s event will run to October 15.

Nick Taylor, managing partner of Brierley Hill-based Higgs & Sons, said: “We are delighted to be an integral part of the Black Country Business Festival again, which is always a great chance for businesses in the region to share knowledge and support each other.

“It will obviously be a bit different this year owing to Covid-19, but we hope everyone who takes part in our webinars will enjoy it and gather vital information at an important time for all businesses.

“We are very proud of our Black Country roots and heritage, a region renowned for its industry and endeavour. This is a celebration of that.”

The webinars kick off with ‘Intellectual property issues with SMEs’ at 2pm on October 5, where Julia Lowe, head of the dispute resolution team, will be exploring how businesses can enforce intellectual property rights.

October 6, 2pm-4pm: ‘Protecting your business against employees who leave to join a competitor’ - Matt Dudley, –solution team

October 9, 10am-11am: ‘Commercial contracts – common pitfalls and how to avoid them’ – Laura Pearson and Peter Manford, commercial team

October 9, 9am-11am: ‘Planning for success within a family business’ – Tim Jones and Paul Hunt, employment and business services team

October 12, 2pm-4pm: ‘Property matters’ – Cherry Elliott, Nyree Applegarth, Richard Saxton, Kevin Joynes, Rachael Hobbis, Property Services team

October 14, 10am-11.30am: ‘Managing a diverse workforce in the wake of a pandemic’ – Sophie Wardell and Amy Brokenshire, HR and employment teams

October 15, 10am-12pm: ‘Tackling diversity on Trustee boards’ – Kirsty McEwen, Head of Charities and not for profit team

October 15, 2pm-4pm: ‘Show me the money’ – Rachael Hobbis and Adam Thompson, Construction and Engineering team, dispute resolution team.
