Stafford Eats will enable foodies in the town to order online from the featured menus, for delivery or collection, while the eateries receive targeted publicity.

The app, which is set to be launched in the next 6 to 8 weeks, is being spearheaded by airline pilot and instructor Adam Corfield.

Adam, 37, said: “I am not flying with what is going on in the world. I wanted to put the time to good use.”

Adam has been approaching food businesses in Stafford and running online surveys and promoting Stafford Eats through social media.

“We have got a lot of Stafford people involved,” said Adam.

“Word is spreading already and there is a big feeling behind it. Businesses are coming on board and every single person who has commented has been really positive.

“Generally it takes months to get an app launched but this is happening very quickly – there is a real desire for it in Stafford.”

Adam said that Stafford Eats takes much less in commission than national apps and participating businesses benefit from tailored marketing.

He said: “Thousands of pounds are being taken out of Stafford - as much as 15 to 35 per cent in commission.

“Stafford Eats takes a fraction of that – 7.5 per cent – and helps the local traders.

“The pandemic has had a big effect on the high street and businesses have not got the budget to pay for advertising.

“We are giving food outlets the platform to do that but at a fraction of the cost – it is a no brainer."

Adam said a range of traders, from a vegan baker to a Chinese takeaway, have already signed up. But he says the success of the app depends on the willingness of Stafford people to get on board.

He added: “It will work if the people of Stafford use the app and follow us on social media.

“The more people use Stafford Eats, the more it will support businesses in the town.”

Adam said Stafford Eats will be donating to food banks and his aim is to sponsor local youth sports teams.
