Baby clothes shop plan for former tattoo parlour left vacant almost three years
A former Stone tattoo parlour that has been vacant for almost three years could be converted into a shop selling baby clothes.
Raymondo’s was run by Burslem-born artist Ray Jones, who inked customers in Stone for more than 15 years and died in April 2018.
Now the Oulton Road studio could be converted into a retail premises after new change of use plans were submitted to Stafford Borough Council.
A design and access statement submitted as part of the latest application said: “The proposal seeks to maximise the potential of the building through sensitive renovation and utilisation of the existing commercial premises. It is proposed that the property be used as retail premises, primarily offering baby clothing and accessories.
“The existing premises has been vacant for approximately 30 months following the closure of the preceding business. The building is in a prominent position on the corner of Longton Road and Oulton Road opposite the Bridge public house.
"The proposed change of use supports the council’s long term strategy of providing a mix of retail and social uses within the Stone town area. The development is situated within a well-established retail and residential area bordering onto the historic part of Stone’s Granville Square and Stonefield areas.”
In late 2019, plans were put forward to covert the premises into a fish and chip restaurant and takeaway. Stafford Borough Council has not yet made a decision on this application however.
