Emily Harris, the 26-year-year-old accounts and logistics executive for her family aluminium recycling business, Alutrade, Tatbank Road, Oldbury, decided to help pupils access digital technology.

Through her initiative the business has now donated more than 105 tablets to help children at five local primary schools, Moat Farm, Woodhouse Academy, Langley, Brandhall and Burnt Tree.

The move has cost about £13,000 but Emily has pledged to do even more and is also appealing for other businesses to get involved.

Emily said: “Schools are really in need of tablets and having been a special needs teacher and having spoken to headteachers I know exactly how difficult it is for some children.

"There are also a lot of people who do not have access to the internet.

“I have pledged to continue helping. We stayed open during the pandemic and are lucky to have made money.

“We are in quite an underprivileged area and we are appealing for other business to give where they can to our local children.

“I don’t want to stop here and want to continue to help where I can and hope others will get involved.”
