The Express & Star revealed last week that billionaire tycoon Mike Ashley was pressing ahead with plans to open a concept Frasers store in the city, despite the impact of the coronavirus crisis.

And retail expert Mr Street said it was a show of faith from House of Fraser at a hugely uncertain time for the high street.

Frasers will replace Debenhams in the Mander Centre, which closed just two years after launching.

The West Midlands Mayor said: "I'm pleased to see House of Fraser will still be joining Wolverhampton's Mander Centre.

"The West Midlands economy is suffering significantly from coronavirus, but we will bounce back and it is good big firms recognise this and are committing to our region."
