The shop on the second floor of the shopping centre was lined up to close at the end of the month.

But bosses at the retailer managed to secure a new agreement with centre owners intu.

HMV will remain open and trading as normal, intu confirmed today.

The chain last week secured a new agreement with the landlords to keep open its shop in Bullring, Birmingham, which was also previously under threat of closure.

Some of the HMV chain still remains at threat of closure unless new deals over leases can be reached.

The company previously confirmed that its HMV in Bury St Edmunds, Glasgow and Nuneaton will still close this month.

HMV staying open comes as a boost to Merry Hill which is undergoing a £10m revamp to update the outside of the Brierley Hill centre, which first opened in the late 1980s.

It comes as intu has revealed it is speaking with its shareholders to ask for extra cash to pay down its debts.

The entertainment retailer recently opened a flagship store in Birmingham's Dale End called HMV Vault with Wolverhampton star Liam Payne performing.
