There has been a huge response in the open categories of the 2018 Express & Star Business Awards including Small to Medium Sized Business of the Year, Family Business and the blue riband Business of the Year.

More than 300 registrations have already been received, but areas that are less well supported so far are those aimed at specific sorts of business such as manufacturing, innovative technology users and tradespeople.

Companies doing great work for their local community can also still bid to become Community Champion.

Viv Birch, Express & Star promotions manager, said: “We have been inundated with registrations of interest from companies within our circulation area that want to be part of the region’s premier business awards.

“My advice to anyone who has not yet completed their entry is to look at all the 11 categories on offer.

"We know there are dozens of organisations across the Black Country and south Staffordshire, particularly the micro businesses, young companies less than five-years-old and those involved in manufacturing who have found a new way to work, all with wonderful success stories to tell.

“We urge them to get involved for the chance to win free publicity and complimentary seats at one of the key calendar dates in the business community’s calendar.

“Every year, once the closing date has gone, people get in touch who want to attend our awards. We have to turn them away because the black tie event is always a sell-out and we expect 2018 to be the same.

"The only way to guarantee your tickets is to enter the awards and be selected as a finalist.

“Do not be deterred because you have not taken part before or you find the thought of completing an entry form daunting.

“Seize this opportunity to showcase your success and raise the profile of your business above that of your competitors – with no cost involved."

Winners will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony being held at Wolverhampton Racecourse on June 7 that will be hosted by TV's 'Voice of the Balls' Alan Dedicoat.
