Maloney swoops for assets of collapsed Ormandy

Aldridge engineering firm Maloney Metalcraft has swooped to snap up the assets of a collapsed heat exchanger firm based in Halifax.

More than 100 people were made redundant earlier this month when Ormandy Group went into administration.

Now Maloney Metalcraft has acquired the IP, or intellectual property, and some other assets of Ormandy from administrators KPMG and will integrate them into its business.

Owned by the Avingtrans group, Maloney Metalcraft is a specialist design and engineering business working primarily in the oil & gas and energy markets.

Austen Adams, managing director of Maloney Metalcraft, said: “Since its formation in 2000, Ormandy Group has developed a very good reputation for manufacturing high-quality products and providing excellent customer service. Unfortunately, challenging market conditions have taken their toll on the business over recent years.

“We are confident that by making the most of the synergies that exist between the Ormandy Group and Avingtrans’ businesses and using the capabilities that already exist within our own operations, we can breathe new life into the well-known brands of Ormandy, Rycroft and Newade.

“One of our first priorities will be to talk to existing customers to identify how we can best deliver their product and service needs.”

Ormandy Group, which manufactured off-site plant, heat exchangers and other heating, ventilation and air conditioning products, had supplied systems for major projects such as The Shard and the refit of Wembley Stadium.

Malone, based in Aldridge and with a site in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, specialises in the design and manufacture of pressure vessels, heat exchangers and filtration and separation components.

The businesses’ in-house design and process engineering team has over 250 years’ combined experience, while its UK manufacturing facilities offer a heritage of nearly 170 years at the forefront of specialist vessel production.
