Primera Era has cancelled the launch of flights to Boston Logan Airport from Birmingham

Scandinavian budget airline Primera Air had announced the flights that were to have operated four times a week in November.

Daily Primera flights from Birmingham to Newark Airport, near New York, are going ahead from May 18, but will reduce to four times a week from June 23.

Primera Air says that all passengers affected by the decision to scrap the Boston route have been offered alternatives, including Primera flights from London Stansted and on other airlines.

It said it had reviewed its flight schedule from Birmingham due to changing passenger flow trends.

"We apologize for the caused inconvenience to all those affected passengers and working now to re-accommodate then in the best possible way as soon as possible

"We would also like to emphasize that overall we see a stable and growing demand for Toronto, New York and short haul flights out of Birmingham," the airline said in a statement.

Primera flights from Birmingham to Toronto are due to start on June 23.

A spokesperson for Birmingham Airport said: "We are confident that Primera Air has made this strategic decision for the longer term success of its operation and we will continue to support the airline to successfully launch its new operation from Birmingham in May.”
