Smethwick yob who tried to steal taser and baton from police officers before assaulting and racially abusing them avoids jail
A Smethwick yob who tried to steal a police taser then spat, punched and racially abused police officers before pretending to have a fit to launch another attack, has avoided jail.

Braydon Fairhurst, 21, also pretended to be having a fit in Oldbury Custody Suite and when officers went to his aid tried to steal a baton and overpower them before he was restrained.
Fairhurst pleaded guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court to assaulting an emergency worker undertaking their duties and racial harassment causing the victim alarm or distress whilst using threatening and abusive behaviour.
On February 14 and March 7 this year Fairhurst, of South Road, attacked officers who responded to pleas of help from his mental health carers who he had attacked.
He kicked and punched the police officers and then at Oldbury Custody Suite continued assaulting officers. He repeated his devious trick of pretending to be choking or having a fit only to turn on officers helping him.
