Death on tracks between Birmingham New Street and Sandwell & Dudley confirmed
A 'casualty on the tracks' has delayed trains between Birmingham and the Black Country.
Avanti West Coast has reported delays to services following an emergency services-led incident between Birmingham New Street and Sandwell and Dudley stations.
The incident was reported at around 8.45am on Monday (June 23), with British Transport Police (BTP) and the West Midlands Ambulance Service rushing to the scene in the Hockley area of Birmingham to reports of a casualty being found on the tracks.
On arrival, emergency services teams discovered one person, who was sadly declared dead at the scene.
BTP said that the death 'is not being treated as suspicious', with a file being prepared for the coroner.
A BTP spokesperson said: "Officers were called at around 8.45am today (June 23) to reports of a casualty on the tracks in the Hockley area in Birmingham.
"Officers responded with paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
Avanti West Coast said that journeys to and from destinations in the Midlands are "expected to be delayed" and in some cases cancelled.
On X, Avanti West Coast alerted: "Due to the emergency services responding to an incident between Birmingham New Street and Sandwell and Dudley, some lines are blocked.
"Journeys to and from destinations in the Midlands are expected to be delayed, with some cancellations as a result of the diversionary routes in place."
The group announced that rail tickets are being accepted on West Midlands Metro services between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton in both directions 'until further notice'.
The group added: "Avanti West Coast tickets are being accepted on West Midlands Metro services between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton in both directions until further notice."
