Jailed: Birmingham man left his dog to suffer with untreated injury
A Birmingham man who left his dog to suffer with an untreated injury has been jailed and banned from keeping animals for ten years.
Michael Leonard Rowlands, aged 44, pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal by failing to get veterinary treatment, after an investigation and prosecution by the RSPCA.
The animal charity was contacted with concerns after reports that a dog owned by Rowlands had been left to suffer with an untreated injury at his address in Newstead Road, Birmingham.

Officers were shown Kane, an eight month old black and white Boxer type dog, with a large laceration across his entire neck and cheek.

The injury, which had not been seen by a vet, had been caused after a fight between Kane and his other dog.
The vet who examined him found he had a large infected wound covering his neck and cheek. Kane required hospitalisation in order to have his wounds cleaned and surgically treated before recovering in RSPCA care.
RSPCA Inspector Fiona Howell, who investigated for the animal welfare charity, said: “Animals deserve to live healthy lives and are reliant on owners to be given everything they need including vet care if they need medical treatment."
Alongside the ten year ban from owning animals, which he can not appeal for five years, he was also sentenced to four weeks custody.
Kane, and a second dog named Able, were both signed over to the RSPCA during the court hearing for rehoming.
