A fire service spokesman added: "A large quantity of clothing which had been removed from the rear of the van was extinguished by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using a hose reel jet.

"Dampening down took place with a thermal imaging camera used to check for hot spots. Two male casualties were handed over to the ambulance service  who attended along with police.

"The A456 was closed in both directions. The incident was marked as pending closure at 09.11."
