An investigation into the theft was quickly launched, with officers finding that the thieves had targeted the premises between May 18 and June 1.
Officers also found that a crowbar was used to open the door, and the following items were taken:
Two brass altar candles with wooden attachments.
A brass table lectern.
Two silver altar candles.
And a silver cross about 30cm in height.
The altar was left dishevelled and the burglars also attempted to access a safe. As well as the Diocese of Lichfield, officers also informed Historic England that the incident is considered a heritage crime.
PCSO Louise Jones, of South Staffordshire Police said: "This was a targeted burglary which happened in between the two regular services the church holds, on the first and third week of the month.
“The thieves took religiously significant items which are highly important to the church and its congregation.
“I would urge anyone who knows anything about this, or encounters the described items locally, to get in touch with us.”
