Man accused of murdering woman with screwdriver near Bescot Stadium set to stand trial later this year

A 19-year-old man accused of killing a hotel worker at a railway station in Walsall will stand trial in October.

After several hearings debating the mental health of Deng Chol Majek, who is accused of killing Rhiannon Skye Whyte, he has been deemed fit to stand trial.

Majek, who pleaded not guilty at a previous hearing to the murder, was assisted by an Arabic interpreter as he appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court, via video-link from HMP Manchester, this morning (June 9).

After several hearings debating the mental health of the defendant, he has been told by Justice Michael Chambers he will have to stand trial on October 13 after a pre-trial hearing on September 5.

He stands accused of using a screwdriver to kill the 27-year-old, who died in hospital three days after being injured at Bescot Stadium station on October 20 last year.
