Inside the dream house once owned by Robert Plant where you get a 'whole lotta' rooms and space for your money
Fancy living like a rock star? If you have a cool £2.6m in the bank you might be able to do just that.
The Argoed, in Penalt, Monmouth, was owned in the 1980s by legendary Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant CBE.
It is on the market for £2.6m and according to agents Knight Frank is said to be " Unquestionably one of the most prominent private residences in the Wye Valley with an extraordinarily rich history to match."
The property was visited by Charles I during the Civil War, was home to the Probert’s who served as MPs in the late 17th century and was home to the Chairman of the Great Western Railway.
It was also where George Bernhard Shaw wrote ‘The Man of Destiny’ and ‘Mrs. Warren’s Profession’, where Beatrice Webb, founder member of The Fabian Society hosted prominent friends and guests towards the end of the 19th century.
But more interestingly to rock fans, it was owned by Wolves fan Plant during his 1980s solo period when he was recording at the famous Rockfield Studios in the nearby village of the same name.

So what do you get for your money with the three storey historic house which has seven bedrooms? According to the estate agents the property comprises five reception rooms with a principal suite and a wood panelled guest suite

There is a total of four bathrooms, kitchen/breakfast room, guest cloakroom, two utility rooms, integral garage, gardener’s workshop and WC, greenhouse, stable block and five additional rooms across the entire second floor.

Outside space is plenty with the property set in 10.9 acres of land. The gardens and grounds of The Argoed are listed on theRegister of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales.

The listing says: "They are glorious, with a traditional country house blend of gravel, grass, shrubs and borders with breathtaking views across the valley.
"There is a Japanese garden set around a water feature, accompanied by an open fronted loggia.

"The garden also includes an impressive ha-ha renovated by the current owners. The arboretum is well established and fascinating and the fact that the English translation of ‘argoed’ is ‘by the wood’, makes its presence all the more fitting."
Plant, now aged 76, who now lives quietly in Wolverley and is a regular at Molineux is believed to have sold the house sometime in the 1990s.
