Man charged with arson over Wednesbury house fire that left three people severely injured

Police have charged a man with arson with intent to endanger life following a house fire which left three people seriously injured in Wednesbury.

Andrew Gorrell was detained in connection with the blaze at a property in Holyhead Road during the early hours of Sunday (11 May).

A man and a woman in their 80s, along with a man in his 50s, sustained serious injuries.

The men remain in a critical but stable condition and a woman who was also at the address is also still in hospital.

Gorrell, aged 53 and of Saltney, Chester, has now been charged with arson and three counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was remanded to appear before Wolverhampton Magistrates Court today (16 May).

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We're continuing to ask for anyone with information to contact us via 101, or Live Chat on our website, quoting log 504 of 11 May."
