The offenders disabled the CCTV outside the store on Common Road, in Wombourne, before trying to break in.

They removed a section of the metal shutter and smashed the glass door behind it to enter at around 12.30am yesterday.

Cigarettes were swiped from the store – with a trail of the items left behind them – before they fled in the direction of Blakeley Heath.

Ram-raid

The Costcutter store on Walsall Road in Great Wyrley was later targeted – with reports of four men in a black car attempting to ram-raid it.

Two offenders used a crowbar to open the shutter and smash the glass door to enter at around 2.20am.

They filled a bag with cigarettes before leaving the premises, travelling in the direction of the A34 towards Cannock.

CCTV footage from the store shows offenders wearing dark hoods and face coverings.

The car was later recovered by officers in Bilston.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident numbers 630 and 639 of October 20.
