The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen of the house in Clothier Street, Temple Bar, at about 2pm while the occupants were out.

West Midlands Fire Service spokesman Matthew Smith said: "We had a 999 phone call at 2.07pm. We sent two crews from Bloxwich and Willenhall with the first arriving at the scene within three minutes.

"The fire started in the ground-floor kitchen of the property causing damage affecting 75 per cent of the ground floor.

"The cause appears to have been accidental.

"The firefighters wore breathing gear to tackle the blaze and used a ventilation fan to clear the excess smoke. The gas and electricity supplies were also isolated.

"It is believed that the occupants were not there and arrived to find our crews there."
