Canal search after reports of body in water

A canal search was launched after reports of a body spotted in the water.

Fire, ambulance and police crews scoured the water near to Oldbury Locks, in Engine Street, after the worrying report on Monday evening.

But it was later found the report, just before 8.30pm, was a "false call with good intent", West Midlands Police confirmed.

A specialist team from West Midlands Ambulance Service also joined the water search in the Titford Canal.

Spokesman Jamie Arrowsmith added: "We were called to Engine Street, near to Oldbury Locks at 8.23pm to reports of a patient in the water.

"One ambulance, a senior paramedic and the trust’s hazardous area response team attended the scene.

"A search of the water took place but no patient was found and we were stood down.”
