Johannes Jacobus Provence died when the HGV he was driving left the southbound carriageway of the M6 between junctions 13 and 12.

The 49-year-old's family has been informed and the matter has been referred to the coroner's office, Staffordshire Police confirmed.

The M6 was closed after the lorry ploughed down an embankment and came to rest on its side at about 1pm on July 22.

The crash took place between junction 12 at Gailey and junction 13 for Stafford on the southbound carriageway.

Paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service rushed to the scene but were unable to save Mr Provence, who was from the Maryport area in Cumbria.

Drivers were warned to expect delays of up to 80 minutes following the crash, with the stretch of road closed for up to five hours as the lorry was recovered.
