Wolverhampton's The Haven wants people across the city to uncover their baking trays and pledge their support to vulnerable women and children.

It comes as part of the charity's 'Break The Silence' campaign, encouraging fundraisers to talk about abuse and violence within their communities.

Senior community fundraiser Jade Secker said: "There is a stigma that surrounds domestic abuse that makes it difficult to talk about and therefore difficult for people to reach out and seek the support they need and deserve.

"By hosting a coffee morning during our break the silence campaign, you can help to raise vital awareness whilst spending quality time with family, friends or colleagues.

"Domestic abuse will affect one in four women in the UK and so its really important we encourage conversations at events like our coffee mornings as there may be people around us in dire need of support but unaware The Haven is here and can help.”

The Break the Silence campaign aims to battle the taboos surrounding domestic abuse and raise awareness of the support The Haven offers.

Cakes of all different shapes, sizes and flavours will tickle the taste buds during a host of events taking place next week.

Community groups and businesses are now being reminded there is still time to whip up mouth-watering treats and start the all-important conversation over a cuppa within their homes or workplaces.

Waterloo Road-based The Haven will also open its doors and host its own coffee morning from 11am until 2pm on Thursday.

It has been supporting women and children at risk of homelessness, violence and abuse since its launch in 1973.
