Car totally destroyed in M54 fire

A car on the M54 was destroyed in a fire caused by a mechanical fault.

The car caught fire on the slip road onto the M54 westbound at Junction 7, near Wellington, shortly after 12am today.

The driver was able to escape the vehicle before the fire spread, and call the emergency services.

The blazing car

Three fire engines attended from Wellington and Shrewsbury, and extinguished the fire with hose jets.

Officers said the car was "100 per cent alight" and "totally destroyed" by the fire.
