Organisers said they were staggered by the amount of support they had received for the TFM Stableford charity vintage tractor road run.

They had been expecting about 55 vehicles to turn out, but on Sunday morning there were more than 95 at the starting point.

The event, which is the first one organised by staff at the farm superstore, is expected to raise about £1,500, although the money is still being counted.

Katie Truss, distribution manager at TFM, organised the event.

"We didn't know how it was going to go," she said. "It has been amazing – we did not expect that much.

"The Midlands Air Ambulance is a charity that's very close to the farmer's hearts. We thought it was the best charity we could raise money for.

"It has had a brilliant atmosphere. I couldn't have asked for it to go better."

A wide variety of old tractors turned out to support the fundraiser.

"There have been all different sorts," Katie said. "They have been all different ages and sizes. It has touched a lot of people's hearts today.

"The atmosphere and the amount of tractors that have turned up. A lot of us have been quite touched by it. The support we've had from the event has been amazing. People have really been pulling together.

"The feedback has been great – everybody had such a great day. I'm really keen to do another next year."
