Compton Care to launch latest bereavement hub

Wolverhampton-based Compton Care is spearheading the new bereavement information hub in South Staffordshire.

It will be the fourth of its kind to be opened by the charity, offering grief-stricken families the chance to come to terms with their loss.

Compton Care partnership development manager Marianne Grant said: “Further to the success of Perton Library Bereavement Information Hub, we are pleased to see that our partnership working with South Staffordshire Libraries has meant that an additional hub can be opened to help support people affected by loss and grief.

“Our aim to support people in the wider community of Wombourne will help to give people a safe and friendly environment to meet others who have been affected and to find out more about local services in their community."

The hub, which will be based within Church Road's Wombourne Library, will launch on April 1 to offer an informal, friendly place for residents who have lost a loved one.

It comes after Staffordshire Freemasons handed the Compton Road West-based hospice a £16,665 grant to set up the hubs across the region last year.

The Masonic Charitable Foundation is also providing £163,000 to national charity Hospice UK, in a pilot partnership aimed at developing bereavement support services in hospices across the country.

Scott Whitehouse, from the Staffordshire Library and Arts Service, added: “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Compton Care to bring a bereavement hub to the Wombourne community.

“The hub at Perton Library has been a real success, offering much needed support, advice and friendship to people who have lost someone.

"We feel that a library setting makes what can be a very difficult experience a little easier for people as libraries pride themselves on being friendly, welcoming and non-judgmental places that are accessible to all in our community.

"There are lots of activities, social groups and books that the hub can signpost people to in order to support them through their grief.”

Other hubs are based at Bilston People’s Centre, Perton Library and Gloucester Street Community Centre, with drop-in sessions held monthly.
