Woman seriously injured in fall from horse before Boxing Day hunt

A woman was seriously injured when she fell from her horse at the beginning of a Boxing Day hunt.

The woman was preparing to take part in the Albrighton Hunt, which begins in Newport, Shropshire, when she fell off her horse at 10.50am on Wednesday.

An off-duty paramedic helped care for the woman while police and an ambulance also attended. An air ambulance was sent for but then stood down.

Forton Road was reported to have been closed while medics treated the woman.

Claire Brown of the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We treated a woman who had suffered serious injuries and she was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

"It was reported that the patient had fallen from a horse."

Eleanor Harris of West Mercia Police said: "Police were called at 10.50am after a woman fell from her horse in Forton Road in Newport.

"Due to the location of the incident there were minor traffic issues and police attended to manage the traffic."
